FAQ on My Newborn Photography

Preparing for a new addition is so exciting and stressful at the same time. Trying to find a newborn photographer and plan a newborn session can bring even more hustle to a new parents. That's why I decided to summerise all needed info from my most commom FAQ to help to answer all those questions for expecting parents.

Feel free to contact me direct if you have any other questions. I am always there for you.

When is the ideal time to have a Newborn session and how long before birth should I schedule it?

The best time to have a newborn session is within the first 14 days after birth. During this time, your little one is still very sleepy and have that natural "curl" which simply means her arms and legs still curl up easily into those cute props and newborn poses.

After two weeks he or she will make a big jump in growth and her arms and legs will stretch more out. Also within the first 14 days, your baby falls into that deep-deep sleep after being fed that no outside distraction will bother her/him. That makes it easy to wrap or dress the baby, to move her arms and legs around without bothering her too much. It also allows me to keep the baby in the outfit and a wrap for much longer periods of time. Babies at that age tend to sleep for much longer periods of time than a three or four week olds. After a few weeks your baby will start to look around and be more allurt, so it will be a lot harder to get those sleepy shots as you can see in my portfolio. Even said, I do have experience working with older newborns that were 3 and 4 weeks old, however, the typical newborn poses will be hard to achieve.

The best time to schedule a newborn session is a few months before the due date. After booking is complete, I will put your due date on my calendar and once the baby is born it will guarantee you that I will find time in my busy schedule for the actual session. I suggest to contact me right after the hospital to shedule your newborn session.

How long will the session last?

Usually newborn session last around 2-3 hours. For twins it last about an hour longer

Where the session will take place?

Newborn sessions take place at my home-based studio located in Tinton Falls, NJ.

What are the prep and tips before the session?

For the family photos I suggest to wear white or black clothing without any prints or logos. Hair and makeup are natural. I always suggest adding fake lashes to bring extra pop to your eyes. I will be doing a lot of close up portraits

I usually do family photos first and then focus on the baby alone. You can choose up to 2-3 props setups and the rest will be blanket poses. If you have a specific color in mind for the blanket let me know.

The session is about 2-3 hours long. The studio will be warm around 76 degrees. Babies like it warm, otherwise they don't photograph well.

I will ask you to wear masks during the session and only take them off during the family portraits. Sanitizers will be provided. I will wear a face shield as well.

You can feed the baby when you get here or right before you leave your house.

I suggest applying lotion on  the baby's  skin a couple nights prior and first thing in the morning to keep it moist and flake free. You can bring baby oil or lotion to the studio as well for touch ups.

If he takes a pacifier bring it as well. It helps a lot to soothe the baby during the session.

You might want to bring comfortable clothes to change  after the family portraits.

I have a bottle warmer and a fridge here, so you can reheat the bottle if you need it. You are welcome to breastfeed as well.

If the baby's siblings will be at the session for the family portraits, I always recommend taking two cars. This way your hubby can take them back home after family photos. Session is long and the studio has to be very quiet for the best results.

Make sure not to eat food the night before that might make baby gassy the next day. I suggest plain foods: pizza, pasta or dairy free products and no strawberries or other acidy allergenic type fruits.

Most important tip: don't get stressed out. Babies tend to feel anxiety and react to it during the session. It is all about a calm and relaxed environment. It will be a fun and memorable experience for the whole family.

What kind of props do you have and what do I need to provide?

My studio supplies all newborn props, backdrops and newborn outfits. You can see most of the stock in my newborn portfolio, but I also upgrade my props and outifts every 3 months.

My studio offers great choices of baskets, nests, flower wreaths plus variety of colors blankets as well as different color wraps, outifts and accessories (hats/headbands/bows)

Do you retouch newborn's skin blemishes and dry patchy skin?

Yes. Skin retouching and skin tone corrections are included in the session fee. In addition to that any basic color enhancement and my signature look will be applied to all images.

How long after the session we can see the gallery?

Online gallery usually ready 2 weeks after the session.

Can parents and siblings take pictures with the newborn?

Yes. Absolutely! Parents and siblings are welcome to take pictures with the baby. It is all included in the session fee. For parents with small siblings I suggest to bring two cars to the strudio. This way father can take little sibling home to rest after the family/siblings portraits. Session can last up to 3 hours and can be a lot for the little ones.

Do you offer custom birth announcements?

Yes.  I can create custom birth announcements for you. Contact Anna for pricing

What is your Covid-19 policy?

Based on CDC safety guidance, I perform sessions wearing a mask. I ask my clients as well to wear masks during the session and only take them off during the family portraits. Sanitizers are provided. All newborn props, outfits and accessories sanitized and washed after each session. You will be asked to fill out Covid Liability Release Waivers on a day of the session. I also will need to know your hospital Covid test results after birth. Safety of my clients and babies are my main priority especially during these hard times. I take it very seriously and only schedule one session a day to be able to have enough time to clean and sanitize my studio props, outfits and the accessories.
